It's nothing like I've ever seen before, in all honesty. I've run every virus scan that Norton Security Suite allows me and I only have a few tracking cookies that I'm in the process of getting rid of [I also don't think they'd cause this sort of problem], the de-frag isn't working, unfortunately so I'm stuck with deleting my files using Norton. Here's a few photos of what is happening:

These symptoms happen nearly every time I boot up my laptop, which is a Compaq A900. If I get the stripes then I tilt the screen down and sometimes it boots up normally; other times it won't go away and I have to use the power button to shut it down. Also, sometimes when I'm browsing and just using the laptop normally, it freezes and this kind of sepia-looking thing starts spreading on my screen. When that happens I can sometimes squeeze the screen, a tiny bit not so hard, and it goes away. I've only had one instance where it didn't work and I had to shut it down via the power button.
I don't have the money to buy a new laptop and I really don't want to go to Best Buy only to have them say, "It's water damage, you're going to have to send it in" because 1) My warranty is up and 2) they always say that, with every laptop I have owned. I also don't want to lose all my files, for the fifth time.

I'm in the process of getting an external hard drive but I want to make sure that it's not a hidden virus or the corruption isn't in one of my files that could potentially be transferred to my other hard drive.
