My Computer is connected but the internet browsers won't browse.?

I Have an XP computer running on the latest updates and service pack, When I connect my mobile broadband to it, it connects and lets me ping websites and download updates using norton internet security but when I open up any of my three internet browsers, IE, Firefox, Google Chrome it just says page cannot be displayed I know it's not the mobile broadband because it works on my laptop and my computer can ping websites.
Please can someone help me 10 points for the best answer.
 
This is nearly always one of two things.

DNS, your computer is meant to pick up DNS information at the same time as it receives DHCP from your router. But if you are pinging names such as 'ping yahoo.com' then we know this is not your problem.

Instead we have to talk about the firewall.

XP doesn't have its own firewall so you must have some third party protection. Syman tec or McAfee maybe.

For a quick check to see if we are in the right area do this :=

Find the icon near the clock on the bottom right of your screen for security or firewall . Right click on it and select to disable security, you are usually given a dialogue so you can say how long it should do this, select the minimum time.

Now open your web browser. If the page comes up then you know for certain that the security software is blocking it.

Now let me tell you something about firewalls. The software vendors have a problem when distributing their security software, they have to assume that the user will not understand the software. So they have to make some educated guesses from information collected at run time as to which doors to close and which to open.

They will err towards caution. If at the time of setup your internet link is wired, they will open the hard wired network connection and close the wifi connection. This is the right thing to do because you do not want a wifi link open that you are not aware of.

You need to go into the security software and select to trust the network connection that you use. (Saying that you trust it does not switch off all security).

Try disabling the windows firewall then Connect to your homepage with either of the browsers. if that doesn't work, then have a look at your anti-virus settings to see if it allows certain web pages to be displayed. if that doesn't get you any ware too, then i suggest you contact you service provider. the problem might be on their side.

Possible fixes.
1: Go to network connections and click create a new connection and go thorough the simple wizard.
2: If you were previous using a modem for that computer disable it in network connections.
3: Restarting of the computer and modem can fix most problems.
4: Check if you installed the drivers properly and if there's any problem check device manager, to do this go to Control Panel then System, Hardware then Click Device Manage, if there's a problem there should be a exclamation mark there.
5: Check there are no IP address. problems Also check that the IP is set to automatic. Do this by going to Network Connections, Right click your mobile network device and then Properties,
locate Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) then double click that and then set all to automatic on both tabs then apply the changes, it then should automatically set the IP for you. You can see if this has worked by right clicking on your mobile
device in Network Connections and then Status then click the support tab. It should say at the top Assigned by DHCP and all three category's should have it's own set of numbers (IP, Subnet and Gateway)
6: Check firewall.
7: You can also try repairing connection, by going to Network Connections, right click your mobile network device and then repair.
 
Right click on internet explorer, select properties, select the connections tab, take it from there.
(or do network connection wizard from control panel)
