My computer won't read DVD-R?

I have an Acer Aspire 3680-2576 and it reads all kinds of disks. It reads cd's and movies and it also read CD-R's and I can put photos and files on them.

I decided to burn a dvd for my sister for her birthday and bought some DVD-R disks but my computer won't read them. When I put the disk in, the light goes on and it starts to spin but no box opens and then it stops turning and the ligt turns off. When I go into my computer file it doesn't show that there is any disk in the hard drive.

I'm not sure why it doesn't read this type of disk and it's really getting on my nerves. I've also checked in my device manager and the drive is still connected and fully functioning so I'm not sure what's wrong with it.

Any help? I don't want to uninstall/re-install he drive.....i'm not that great with computer stuff and I don't want to screw it up.

Try a system restore first... you can wipe the computer clean back up to a certain date in the past. I'm not sure what's wrong with your computer, but this may help if you are trying to restore your computer after downloading something nasty. System restore will usually guide you through the process...little room for error. Simply choose the date which you want to restore your laptop back to, then start the system restore. The computer will do the rest...
Search for system restore by clicking on the start button on your laptop. Then click over to the right on HELP & SUPPORT. Search in the searchbox for SYSTEM RESTORE.
