I am a single mother of a 16 year old girl and I did not date for 14 years after she was born. During that time, I had virtually no social life, but instead my life revolved around her. I started dating again two years ago and have been with my boyfriend for about a year. She likes him as a person but is jealous of the time we spend together. We see each other two evenings a week and talk on the phone or on line every night for a while, usually after her bedtime. We also try to include her sometimes, taking her out to dinner with us, to the movies, etc.
She thinks I should not date until she has moved out of the house. I am afraid that I have not given her a realistic picture of life, since married parents spend time together without the kids. I think that I should be able to have a social life at this point. Has anyone else dealt with this situation?
