My diabetic mother who is in her 50s is complaining of numb hands?

She says she can't sleep because of it, and she had just been to the doctor, who said she was healthier than her last visit.

What could this be?
 
If it is diabetes related it is called diabetic neuropathy. If it isn't, then it is probably a pinched nerve in the neck or between the shoulders. If she has been a diabetic for a long while, I would assume neuropathy.
 
and to make the numbness tolerable and to prevent further damage........buy and take Acetyl L carnitine, 1000 mg per day AND Alpha Lipoic acid 1200 mg per day.
