I have an 11 month old Toy Poodle (whos almost turning 1) and yesterday, the neighbours kid dropped my dog Cherry and she landed on her leg. It was a very bad fall and she would't move her leg at all. We took her to the emergency vet as it was the weekend and the x-rays proved that the bone had snapped in half and had twisted. They splintered her leg up and we took her home last night. This morning, we took her to our local vet, who luckily has the only orthapedic registered vet in the whole of Canberra. She said that Cherry will need to have an operation and that she'll stick to pins through her skin to hold the bone in place and to let it heal up gradually. She is staying at the vets overnight and is having her operation tomorrow. Even the vet seemed a little nervous because Cherry is only 2.9 kg and she broke both her bones, which are extremely thin (approx 5mm). I forgot to ask the vet these few questions, so if any of you know any answers, plz help me as i'm extremely .
1. how long roughly do you know does it take to do the operation? are the chances of recovering high? (our vet just said that the surgery will help it heal.)
2. will Cherry be able to tolerate all the drugs given, considering she is so small?
3. will cherry be back to normal once the bone has recovered? how long roughly in ur experience has it taken a dog to recover from a completely fractured bone?
Thanks
