I have a 4 year old shepard/chow mix dog. Every time me and my husband leave together, he whines so loudly as if he is being hurt. If just one of us leaves he is fine, but when we are both gone, he sounds like someone is murdering him. We have already gotten a complaint where we live about it. We have tried showing him extra attention, leaving for about 5 minutes at a time (to see if he will slowly get used to it), positive reinforcement when we return if he was not too loud. I don't know what to do with him. But we can't stay here all the time with him. Other than that, he is the best dog. And I have had him since he was 8 weeks old. He has been around other dogs when we had roommates, but even then, he whines when we leave. I will try almost any suggestion within reason. I can not afford to get another dog.
