my dvd burner has an atapi/e-ide interface. is there a format of disk that

DVD-R holds slightly more data, and is the "official" standard. I would use it in most cases. Some older drives and players only support one or the other, though.

As far as the "interface" goes, SATA is technically faster, although I doubt you'd see much of an improvement over your IDE drive.
