My DVD DivX Player Won't Play Data Disc!?

Hi,

I bought a DVD DivX Player today.

I put some films on a DVD disc in avi. format. The player reads the files but when I press to play them it says 'unsupported format'. Avi is a compitable format as far as I was aware.

Any suggestions?
