good for blu-ray movies? Is it worth buying blu-ray with the resolution my tv has?

It is not 1080 but close...right?
 
Your TV is a 720p/1080i TV.
It is certainly very good to playback Blu-ray movies.
At 42" it is very hard to notice the difference between 720p and 1080p, so don't worry about that.
