I'm trying to write a long story, but my inspiration keeps coming and going.

This is the fifth long story I've tried to write so far, and I'm hoping it'll be the first I'll be able to finish. It was originally written as a short story by a friend of mine and I got his permission to rewrite it in greater detail...

Except now I have a horrid case of writer's block. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for getting me back on track. It's been about four months since I've added to the story, and I'm growing impatient. Help please?

Try write some one shots, or short stories.
Fanfiction.net
is a great place for you to read and write stories.
I guarantee that you'll find inspiration there.

In the form of a little troll that tells you to burn things. lol

First of all, don't panic. Panic only adds to writer's block.

Second, don't write someone else's ideas.

Lastly, don't set out to write a long story. Set out to 'tell' a story and let the story tell you how long it will be.

My first novel started as a short story idea and the story became so fascinating and involved that it drug me kicking and sceaming by the keyboard. Once it got going I found it hard to keep up, and I type 65 wpm! It is now a series of novels and I am working on completing the third.

Here are some great ideas for inspiration. Take an idea...something you are passionate about. Imagine a scenario that plays out this idea. Got it? Now sit down and write it without imagining an ending. See where the story takes you.

Listen to some of your favorite music, then write the lyrics on your arms. Write the ones that stick out to you. Soon, start blending your favorite lines from your story.

But, if you have to make yourself write, then this story may not be for you. Write when it's something you enjoy, and don't have to try too hard with :)

I get writers block all the time, just try jamming to some music for ten minutes, that usually motivates me. Just dont listen to something like ice-ice baby or lets get physical so the reacurring words dont get stuck in your head, cause i caught myself writing a story once and then i started typing superfreak!superfreak!shes a superfreak!shes superfreakaaayy! :)

Have to gone back to the start, and read it through everything you've got so far? And reread your friends short story. You never know what reading through them may spark off in your imagination.
