my Internet explorer keeps closing?

I have a computer which i purchased from an independant computer store and do not no the model therefor cannot wipe the computer totally.

Basically I was browsing the web and my computer froze, i turned it off and back on, everything was fine, the only problem is that when i try to get onto internet explorer it opens for a split second then just disappears (without an error message)........ now i have FireFox *luckily* as a back up and it works fine so why not IE?. Any help would be very gratefully received and i would really like my explorer bakc up and running. (i am a bit of a "basic" computer user so if you could make it easy to understand) sorry!!!!!!!!!1
 
ok what u need to do is restart ur computer go in thru the safe mode u can do this by pressing F8 while ur computer is booting up
and safe mode
then start
then all programs
accesseries
then system tools
system restore
restore it to an earlier date
then it will do all the work for you

after that is done you can do a virus scan
use this program it is really good
