MY IPHONE 3GS DOESNT HAVE AN OS AND WONT RESTORE! HELP PLEASE!?

I tryed to do a restore and update on my iPhone 3GS and it got to the part where it would take off my operating system then it got an error saying, "The iPhone could not be restored. This devide isn't eligible for the requeste build.". and now, if i try to restore any software update, it says the same thing.

i would really appreciate the help.

I had a simular problem with mine dude. Does it come up saying your battery is flat or what ever? Cause mine did and i could restore it after an hour when i left it on charge?
