my jeep is idling weird?

i have a jeep cherokee with the 4.0 in line and it has started idling weird. i think it might be a sensor but im not sure.when it is Just sitting in park it will idle up to 1500 rpm and it will idle back down to like 500 and sputter and act like it wants to die and then it will rev up, i think it /might be the throttle position sensor but im not sure. what could it be
