My kitten cheif is 4 months old. I have had nothing but problems with him since I brought him home from the pet store. First he was having diarrea, so the pet store took him to the vet and treated him for worms. Brought him home.... still more diarrea, Pet store brings him to the vet again, treats him for worms again. Bring him home, now hes had continued diarrea and a dry heave/gagging cough.
Yesterday, I brought him to the vet, he has been coughing for two weeks now about twice a day for 5-7 minutes in each episode. Plus the continued diarrea.
He is a good eater, I have not changed his diet, he gets purina kitten food (dry) that is out whenever he wants to eat. He drinks alot of water, his activity has been okey as well.
At the vet, he had a temp of over a 104. they gave him a penecillian injection and perscribed Metronidazole 100mg once a day, and clavamox 62.5 mg 2X a day.
a few hours after the vet visit I gave cheif both meds for the night. a few hours later he is weezing/coughing/dry heaves again, I went over to him to rub his back and kiss him like always and I noticed his breathing was different... Like scratchy, have trouble... During his spells of coughing he was not having this kind of problem... Even though he was coughing the breathes inbetween were fine and after he was okey... But after this first spell since adminstering the meds his breathing was scratchy and it seemed like he was having more of a difficult time then before even after the spell was over.
I put my ear to his back and I could hear the trouble he was having, I also noticed his heart was beating oddly...Rapid and irregular.
I can't figure out, if the meds are just doing their job and getting rid of what ever is wrong or if they are making it worse and he is allergic. I konw I should give it a few days before I get to panic but I have been so worried to begin with, its only caused my stress about it to go up.
I was thinking maybe it was too much having the injection and administering both meds all in one day and maybe I should have started the cycle today instead of the same night.
He has had over 5 spells in the last 24 hours. His temp has gone down because i noticed he is sleeping next to where the heat comes out in my kitchen.
I don't know what to do. I think there is something that is way more wrong than the vet thinks. I can't afford to bring my cat to the vet everyother day at $120 a visit, and $50 for new meds. My cat is so sweet I love him so much. Any advice?
