My macbook will not read cd/dvd's. is it worth it to get it fixed or buy and

external cd/dvd drive? im wondering if i should go get it fixed at the apple store, and probably pay more, or buy the external cd /dvd drive. another question i have is, if i wanted to install something (etc a game) on my mac, i would use the external cd / dvd drive?
 
It will cost more to get it fixed. If you're OK with lugging around an external drive, then it will be cheaper and have all of the same functionality.
