Our golden Retreiver keeps waiting for the dinner scraps and I believe he got used to it. How do I snap him out of it and make him eat his dry dog food? We've mixed the canned food and dry food together and let him eat it, but we want him to eat dry food instead. I think he doesn't eat because he thinks that we're believe that he is going to starve and so we give him dinnner scraps. What do I do?

Ignore the behavior. He won't die, I promise. He has learned that if he waits long enough that you will give him the really yummy stuff. If all you had to do was wait another half hour and you would get ice cream instead of having to eat that tuna cassarole you would wait the half hour wouldn't you?

You could mix table food in with dry food and slowly wean him into just dry food.

Or you can force him into eating his food by giving him nothing but the dry food, he will eventually eat it.

From experience he will eat if he is hungry ... do not give him any scraps at all as he will point blank refuse to eat his food...

If his food has not been touched after 15 minutes lift it up and do not give it to him again ..

Put food down again the following day and my best bet is he will eat it then..(unless he is very stubborn ).. keep at it as he is trying to get his own way ..

I made a mistake of putting gravy on the food and now i am having to wean my boy off gravy with his food ..

Good luck andstick with it . .show him you are the boss and not the other way round

This always works for me. Put about 2 tablespoons of warm water on top of the food. Then gradually stop putting the water in. Hope this helps you!
