my PC wont recognize my Rogers Blackberry 9300 curve 3G!?

to be accurate its not my PC,its the blackberry desktop software,i downloaded it and then installed it successfully and when i ran it asked me to connect my device which i did,but then when i click on applications or media,it doesnt show any thing,it told me to turn on mass storage mode in the device options which i tried to do,but in the device options i can see the options but they are unclickable,you know what i mean???all i want is to backup my applications because lately i have been getting an error message that says uncaught exception:index4>=4,and i have been looking around on the internet and i found that backing up and then wiping off the device is the only solution,so that is what i tried to do,please i dont wanna lose my applications,some of them i paid a lot to purchase also my themes too,help me and thank you so much.
