about it? I caught a virus and was in the hospital Thursday-Saturday morning.

On Friday, in my college Humanities class, a pop quiz was given...which I obviously missed. A friend told me about the quiz today and I emailed my professor telling him of the circumstances and asked if I would be able to make up the quiz, if so, when would be the best time for me to do it. He told me that I cannot make up the quiz because I was not in class and he does not offer make up quizzes to those who happened to miss class that day, and because I did not tell him before hand that I would not be in class, it's an unexcused absence, I should have told him Wednesday or Thursday that I would not be in class Friday. I don't understand? I didn't sleep in and skip his class, I was sick, I'm not sure how I could have foreseen being gone Friday.

Is there anything I can do, anyone I should talk to, or am I stuck with a zero for my quiz?

Sorry, but no, you can't make it up. That's his policy, and the college will accept it. Just try to do well from now on and not miss any more classes.

If you were admitted to the hospital, that should be a legitimate excuse. I would get a note from the hospital and then go talk to him again. If that doesn't work, ask your adviser for his opinion and what options are available. What defines an excused/unexcused absence is often set at the university policy level.

That's messed up, take a note from the Hospital to give him, If it's going to inflect your grade not taking it, and he won't let you, take it to the higher authorities and see what they can do,
