My Sony Ericsson w595 phone won't turn on.?

It's 3-4 years old and I've been having minor recurring issues for several months, but nothing that wasn't manageable.
Four days ago I couldn't use the 'off/on' button to exit web applications, as is usually possible, and so had to do so with the 'back' key. I was then unable to turn off my phone using the 'off/on' button, and as there is no shortcut key/code that I am aware of, I had to do so by removing the battery. After my phone turned off, I replaced the battery. Removing the battery to turn my phone off has caused me no problems before.
The next morning, I could not turn my phone on by holding down the 'off/on' button, during the day I tried various battery removal/cleaning / button combinations, but to no avail.
The next day I charged my phone, and it went through the usual charging motions/visuals like usual. Afterwards, I still could not turn it on. Several hours later I charged my phone again. It had held all its charge between these two periods of charging but it still will not turn.
I do not know whether the fault is with the battery, the 'off/on' button, or some other component of the phone. Any help?

If you have been having problems with the on/off key then I would suspect this is probably the problem. However it could also be the battery - you could test another battery in the phone and this would rule out if it is the battery or not.

Otherwise the only way to get this fixed is to take it to a store for repair, as the phone is out of warranty it would be a chargeable repair. Most places can give you a quote before you commit to anything.

You could try your local store to see if they have any spare batteries for you to try in the phone - to rule out a battery problem, or you can buy batteries quite cheaply on eBay.
