my sony ericsson won't respond?

I charged it once, and the battery expanded and bulged and wouldent fit in the phone...which wasn't good...So I got a new battery and now the phone won't respond or anything when I turn it on or charge it. A red light does turn on, on the side of the phone. I think it is an infra red thing.

I have charged it over night and longer than 10 hours.

It is a K800i.
