I'm not the most technical of people when it comes to computers, so please bear with me. I live in halls of residence at university where I connect to the Internet with what I believe is called a VPN connection (socket on the wall, plug cable from this into laptop). I recently replaced my old laptop which was damaged and installed the software onto this new one. However, it now keeps disconnecting. I can connect to the Internet fine at first, and it can last for anything up to half an hour to a few minutes before I need to reconnect. I have a feeling it may be something to do with the virus software installed, which I believe is Symnatec. Windows Vista keeps giving me a notice about a message that cannot be displayed, and when I check it out it's options for this program. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm considering taking it to the IT consultant at the university but if it's something simple I'd rather attempt to fix it myself.
