So a question on my hw asked:
(3.145E+07) - (1.2E+06)= ?
My teacher's key says 3.02E+07 is the answer, which I do not understand. Since we have to keep sig figs in mind, I see that 1.2E+06 has the least amount of decimal places which is 1. So why does he have 3.02E+07? That is three digits. Shouldn't it be 3.0E+07? Or is there some other rule I don't know about? Need help soon because I have a quiz on this today.
