I had to park my car for a month at the end of July after surgery. It wouldn't start because the battery was dead. We got it charged and then found a vacuum leak. Got it fixed and managed to drive less than 2 miles before it lost power. My brother thought that it was the ignition, so he replaced that. It still won't start and is only testing at 1 volt. He has taken out the distributor and tested it and it is working ok. He thinks that the problem is related to the crank position sensor (or rpm speed sensor) but he just can't figure out what it could be.
I really need my car back and anyone who has encountered this or works on VWs, please give your input. It is a 4 cylinder engine, basic model. I'm almost desperate....I'm having to drive my brother's 1988 Mazda pickup and it has seen better days.
