Message: <blockquote data-quote="derekdemeter1" data-source="post: 1601953" data-attributes="member: 623195">What model stereo is it?  It's likely that the cd player is reading the mp3s from your ipod and playing them internally.  Stereos that do this cannot play purchased itunes songs because they are in a DRM-protedcted format (.m4p).  Thats why these songs can only be played through your ipod or your iTunes application.  Only your iPod and iTunes have your encryption key and the ability to unlock these files and play them.Regular mp3s or even non-DRM protected iTunes tracks (.m4a or .aac) will play fine in the cd player, assuming it supports non-protected iTunes formats.</blockquote>
