...miles.....? its in the shop now getting the head gaskets replaced, the mechanic does all of this work only to tell me that it needs a new engine, wtf? my question to you all is, how long can i drive the car after the head gaskets job is done, before i absolutely have to get the engine fixed? forgive me for not wording it right, im really upset about being taken advantage of by this crooked mechanic....
i only had the car for 2wks, i bought it from some guy who claimed there were no problems with it, it had a weak start(starter) so i took it in, only to find out it supposedly needed all of this done, which i paid 600.00 for..oil and filter, air filter,4 spark plugs,4 front seal engine, thermostat and coolant, oil pan and gasket, clean throttle plate and p.c.v valve...when i got the car back, it was blowing out white smoke, which it didnt do before i took it to him, he didnt fix the starter which was the initial problem and he tells me after the fact that i need a new engine!!! now wouldnt it had made more since to have the engine done instead of going around it? he is crooked or what?

A good mechanic should have been able to tell whether or not you have deeper engine woes than a head gasket, when he removed the cylinder head. It is almost impossilbe to damage a Toyota engine to the point where it self destructs, except by using really cheap oil in it. I did see one Toyota engine with totally clogged oil passageways from using QS and not changing it regularly. I have seen Toyota heads that were rotted out by not using genuine Toyota coolant. WHere have you been getting your oil changes done???? Good Luck!!

you are being taken advantage of.if you have the head gasket do you should be able to drive for a while.
