I need to purchase a vehicle, but dont know which way to go. (truck=gas guzzler/durable or sedan=economical/stylish/not durable or versatile) I just need a vehicle to get me back and forth to work, run errands, occasional going out/nightlife, and affordable. I have $10k budget. This is my first car out of college and dont want to be "car rich, cash poor." However, when I visited New Orleans, I realize the roads are not in great shape. I noticed plenty of potholes and uneven terrain. Moreover, in some areas..after some rain....areas begin to flood...enough not to drive thru!!. Therefore, I thought it might be a good idea to get a vehicle elevated (Jeep Liberty, Ford F150..instead of an ACURA TL or Ford Taurus)
My work involves going to job sites occassionally, but not hauling any materials.

What vehicle would recommend for New Orleans to address this? (occasional flooding, bad roads) Or do you think this is over exaggerated?

If you need to go over nasty terrain, I'd recommend a light truck like a Ranger or a Tacoma, but a coupe would definitely save you on gas, and you'll probably be able to carry more people. A Subaru could probably work as a compromise.
