Yesterday, the CDC released a new report, featuring rape and domestic violence statistics. Among the numbers? The fact that 1 in 4 women has been the victim of some form of domestic violence or abuse, and that almost 1 in 5 women has been the victim of a sexual assault or rape. The public and major media outlets were collectively shocked--which is odd, since both of these statistics, and particularly the "1 in 4" number has held strong for years and have been widely known and reported on. The only excuse for finding these numbers "shocking" is if you have never in your life attended a college, picked up a newspaper, turned on the television news, watched a serial crime show, or known a woman.
