New Telus phone and activation?

I am with Telus and I have had my LG Dare for almost a year now. At first I was really happy with my phone but recently it restarts on it own or just completely shuts off. Also it is very hard to hear people and others have a hard time hearing me. There is no water damage and it hasn't been dropped that many times. If I buy a new phone from somewhere other than the Telus store (because I don't want to spend $200 or more on a new phone) can it still be activated and used with my existing plan?

something about TELUS
If it is less than a year old then the warranty will fix it for FREE.

OR, if you just want a different phone...

You can use any TELUS phone on your account. Most people who find themselves needing a new phone at mid-contract will usually find a good used one on ebay or kijiji. The other option is to go to Walmart/Futureshop/Bestbuy and buy a TELUS prepaid phone (they come with a 1 year warranty). Any of these can be swapped to your account to replace your worn out phone. Do the swap yourself online for $10 or call in to have it done for $35.
BEFORE you buy a used phone make sure that can be activated by checking the ESN with TELUS because if it was reported as lost of stolen then you can't hook it up. Most sellers are honest but some will try to sell lost or stolen phones.
