Odd, but when I was searching for my half-sister on Facebook (didn't find her), I came across another "Brian Ashcraft." I've always thought "Ashcraft" was kind of a rare last name. I've never actually met another Ashcraft, though the lead singer of the Verve, Richard Ashcroft, has a name kinda close to mine.
True story: when I was in college, NME has a feature in which you could send in questions via email for famous bands, and then NME would have the bands answer them. Me, being the budding journo, sent off a bunch of questions for Liam Gallagher and former drummer Alan White. NME, goofed, and printed my name incorrectly as "Ashcroft." Here is how it played out:
nme.com: Brian Ashcroft also wants to know 'Who has the best shoes?'
Both: Me!
Alan White: Me, without a doubt. I've got the best loafers.
Liam: Me, you cunt! I have the best shoes.
Alan: Sorry. My Prada moleskin loafers are top.
Liam: I don't know what mine are. I just know that mine are the best and that's the end of it. Who's that from? Brian Ashcroft? That's Dickie Ashcroft, you cheeky sod.
Being called a "cheeky sod" by Liam Gallagher is still a personal high point. The full interview, my first, is here.
Anyway! Back to Facebook, I found another "Brian Ashcraft" and immediately sent him a friend request — you know, to have a Bizarro Bashcraft fill in when I'm sick and what not. He hasn't replied back. Probably freaked the poor dude out. Have you meet other Crecentes? Like not-family Crecentes? Brian Crecentes? I figure you or your hair broke the mold, so...
