...a religion blindly is a good idea I want to start off with it being perfectly clear that this is not a rant, this is not in any shape or form any form of intended or un-intended biase, hate, bigotry, or anything of that general purpose; if you want to send me hatemail please feel free too.

That being said why do people think that following a religion or of any form blindly is honestly any way is a decent idea? Most morals in any religion are usually good (such as love your neighbor as you would love yourself). I do understand that but why take it extremely seriously such as believing that there are such things as talking demon snakes that like tempting rib women to eat apples. I'm aware that most people do not follow a religion blindly but there is being religious and taking religion way too far. So I must query why do people follow a religion blindly?
Once more, I have nothing against religion and I am not neccesarilly questioning it I am questioning the belief of the general faith of the people in question not neccesarilly the religion itself.

personally i'm christian. and i agree with you!

i respect and intend to follow most of the ideas in my religion but since the society is constantly changing some rules dont fit anymore.

i think some people take religion too far because it's a thing that they cant hold onto.. it's probabaly the only thing for them..

you might perceive it as blindness but it isn't always the case.
religion s man-made and you should expect some sort of influence. follow God not religion.

I am not like most of these Christians out here, and I did not always follow religion blindly, I was like you, I argued with people about why they believed in God, and even made fun of them for their beliefs...But when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, at the age of 17, right after my aunt had passed away, there are many more things that lead me to believe there was something greater at work. My parents were on drugs, a baby was a good incentive for them not to be, I was on drugs, a baby was definitely a good incentive for me not to be. Pretty much, my daughter saved my life, and she was a miracle from God. When you put as much effort into believing and looking for miracles as you do trying to disprove miracles, you will find them. And you will believe them. So please do me a favor, I'm not asking you to believe in God or accept Jesus as your savior, but try looking for a miracle. Something that can't be defined by science or logic. Look for that, and then tell me what you think.

Edit:
Also most Christians do not believe in demon snakes and hellbound apples... The bible has been proven to be nothing more than an old newspaper, some of it isn't even translated correctly, (it was written in Hebrew) The books contradict one another, etc etc etc, and honestly some of it doesn't make any sense at all (I've tried reading the book of revelations and applying it to the present, like some people do) and there is NOTHING in it, that applies to now. Not at all. FYI. But, another issue is, you cannot be TAUGHT religion, in my opinion. You can't learn it from a book, you have to FEEL it. I haven't been to church in 8 years at least, and didn't find my salvation until 4 years ago. My salvation wasn't found in the bible or a church. It was purely I felt the love of God, and accepted Jesus Christ as my savior. I really wish more people would look at religion that way, instead of living in fear of a book that was written years and years and years ago. Also, the Bible was put together by the successor of the King that had Jesus crucified. Would you trust that? I wouldn't. And if anyone wants to challenge me on that fact, Google it. It was on the History Channel.

Are you saying that any one who believes Eve was given a rib from Adam or that a snake tempted Eve is guilty of following religion blindly?

While I believe these things on the surface I also believe that there is symbolism in many biblical stories and that I am just not smart enough to fully understand it. I suppose that is where faith comes in. Faith is believing what you can not see, hear, or feel.

I differentiate between religion and Christianity. Religion is of man and Christianity is of God.

I take my belief in God extremely seriously, but not because of bible stories, but because of real life experiences in my life or the lives of my family members. Experiences that remove all doubt and confirm that God exists.

There are few things I know for certain. I know God prevented an abusive husband from killing me. I know God saved my son's life. I know God cured my mother of cancer. I know God comforted my dad before he died - a man who never believed in God. I know, I just know.

I don't have it all figured out and I'm not sure we are suppose to be able to figure it out. It is very easy for smart people to dismiss the existence of God. I have had such thoughts myself but know not to go down that path.

Why do you care how far people take their religion? I don't know if you are a non-believer, but I'm confused by the number of non-believers who always ask "God" questions.

People are introduced to religion when they are vulnerable - either as children or during times when their resistance is low (prison, recovery, etc.). It seems to me that religion is something that is usually foisted upon the weak, then reinforced by peer pressure.

Religion is the ultimate in good sales campaigns. The believer is convinced that their brand is the best and because it gives them answers they feel comfort in the support it gives. They may not all like all the answers but because they find the alternative of not believing so difficult/frightening they accept what they are told.

I think that a lot of people feel like there is something missing in their life. They need something to hold on to, something that isn't really going to do any harm, but something that makes them feel good..Like you said..most religions contain a list of things that pertain to our morals..and that being said, it actually does good. I think that people take it too far sometimes because it keeps them busy..it's kind of like a form of escapism. Putting your head in the sand type thing. When it comes to religion, I am confused.

Some religions such as Calvinism say unquestioning faith is a sign you are one of the predestined to go to heaven. Imagine how hard it would be to question those beliefs if the mere doubt proves you are not going to be saved.
