what is the answer? OK, I have seen some good kids grow, and some grew that did not fit the sterotypical "teenager" look. Now their look is all too prevolent. First symptom of a dropout is they cannot get up early enough for school. This is where the entire federal school system is missing the point. They must wake up sometime. So have a night school for these kids. There are more than enough unemployed teachers to do the job. Also make the major for night students appropiate for their living style. They need some of the three Rs, but pull in teachers from trade schools. Let them try their hand at a profession we already desperately need filled. Medical assistants, dental assistants, healthcare providers for elderly/handicapped, plumbers, electricians, and more need qualified people to fill jobs left by baby boomers. So why can't we let our kids know they can get a certificate with job security for their 12 years of schooling. With this goal, they might fight more to stay. We need them now, and they can also try haircutting and more for those who do not like these choices. If they intend to be an electrician, why force them to read Dickens and Homer? Maybe I am way out of line, but this is my opinion. Does anyone else have opinions for Obama to help our youth?
