How can something be fat free but have a bunch of sugar...that is pretty much going to turn to fat right???
 
It has no fat in it. That's why it's fat free.

Sugar is not fat. It's completely different from fat. Sugar is used by the body as energy. Any of that energy that isn't used is converted into fat by the body for use later. But sugar itself is not fat.
 
If it is fat free
that just means it has no
saturated or trans fat in it...
 
Sugar is carbohydrate. Carbs are an easily accessible energy source, but if you don't access them, the some of the left-overs will deposit as fat (through a long, boring process). So yes, its a bit of a fallacy that some fat free products are really all that healthy. Eating them and taking some exercise is better than eating very fatty foods and exercising however.

Don't think of "fat" as in 'it's going to make you fat'.

Fat is a lipid, and when it says "fat" on a label, it's talking about oils like butter or olive oil.

Sugars are carbohydrates, such as glucose, corn syrup, and the sugar you think it is.

High levels of either are unhealthy, but it's important to not get them mixed up
