NYC, interesting, pretty, artistic, etc areas?

I'm doing a project for school and I need to do research on an specific area of NYC. So if you know any areas that are interesting, pretty, artistic, etc or have lots of cool stores please name the area. I just need the name of the area and I'm going to do all the research. Preferably an area that has some museums, restarants, places of worship, parks, etc. ASAP please and thanks.
