Ok...So I'm feeling really frustrated. My husband and I just bought a house and it's got a 15 year old "B Vented" fireplace (which we weren't aware of) and it's unactractive, to say the least. I had a chimney sweep over today who acted like it would be take Jesus himself to switch it out. He quoted me something like $7,000 to take out an old one and replace it with a new one. He said the walls would have to come with it and the mantle would have to be rebuilt. He also said that if I (God forbid) wanted to change it to an "A Vent" for regular gas or wood, that I'd be looking at tens of thousands of dollars. Am I the only person who has a B vent for a fireplace because he sure made me feel that way. Please help and thank you in advance!
