one of my friend`s son has chicken pox, we were planning for vacation together?

Hi I am 22 weeks pregnant. One of my friend`s son has chicken pox. He had been to doctor and should be ok withing 2 days. We were planning for a vacation in snow on 14th feb. I had chicken pox when I was child. I heard one gets it once in lifetime. Is it true. My husband I are planning to cancel this trip as chicken pox is contagious. Was it a right decision. Please advise. I know my friend is going to feel bad but I can`t help it.

Not everyone who gets chicken pox becomes immune to them. My advice is to stay away from the kid if he has it. It can be harmful to your baby if you catch it. My sister was scared her baby would be blind and deaf when she caught them at 17 wks. and now he has bad eye sight when no one else in the family wears glasses and she wonders if that's what caused it. She had had chicken pox as a child as well. Just stay away to be safe.
