Photoshop 6.0 Smudge and blur turns black!HELP!!?

I've used photoshop 6.0 on an old computer and the smudge and blur tool worked fine but I installed it into a new computer and now the smudge and blur tool make everything black. I already tried to reinstall it but that didn't work...can somebody please help me???
