picked up some trial contacts from my eye doctor and?

i dont understand why i am supposed to go back and pay $150 for a "fitting" and prescription when its looks like the prescription is on the lens box...what am i missing? cant i just use the -2.50 -175 axis 180 etc etc verbiage that's written on it?
