Matt Harvey finally debuted for the New York Mets — and the hurler didn’t disappoint. In a move that Mets fans have been calling for all season, New York sent their 24-year-old to the mound for his career debut on Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The results were better than anything Mets fans could have imagined.
In five and a third innings, Harvey struck out 11 batters while giving up only three hits. The rookie was also a natural at the plate — going 2-for-2 with a single and a double.
With Harvey leading the way, the Mets cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Diamondbacks.
“It was everything I could have imagined,” Harvey admitted after the game.
Now Mets fans have something to be excited about since the ballclub’s chances of making the playoffs have all but vanished.
