My daughter is 16 months old. My husband is in Texas for army training and I will be joining him next week. I've been staying at my father-in-law's for the past couple of months. YES, I understand that being separated from her father is a big deal. But she is surrounded by friends and family here (my hometown, where my husband and I both grew up). She is NOT lacking for any love or attention. However, there are days--ok, weeks--when she will wake up whining, walk around ALL DAY just whining, and then cry herself to sleep. It is ridiculous. It's not just normal whining/crying. I have YET to hear a baby's cry as shrill and loud as mine. I can pick her out from a crowd just like every mom--except the way I recognize her is that her screams are 53782904329048 times louder than the others. Other words to describe-CONSTANT, INCESSANT, AT THE TOP OF HER LUNGS, ETC . I am 21 and feel like pulling my hair out. I have loved being a mom up until the past few weeks. It can't be where we are--
or it would have started when we first got here. Nothing calms her down--no distractions, no toys, no loving, no bottle, no food, NOTHING. Our days usually end up with her crying herself to sleep in her crib and me locking myself in the bathroom sobbing until she is finished. I feel like a failure as a mom. I feel like I wasn't cut out for this at all. My husband doesn't understand how stressful it is to go through this every day. I don't work, no--but I have, I am in no way spoiled. The past few days I haven't even gotten dressed out of my pajamas. What's the point? I don't want to go anywhere. She screams everywhere we go, regardless where or what we are doing. People look at me like it's my fault. Please help. PLEASE!!!!
thank you for all your answers already--I have taken her to a doctor, and she's a perfectly normal baby. She never cries like that when she's in the office :(

i feel for you, have you taken her to a doctor maybe there is something wrong with her. i know that constant squeeling is so head breaking but you have to hang in there. i always try warm bath or an afternun walk to tire my kid and thus she wont be crying anymore coz she's too tired to cry..
or maybe she is not comfortable in her sleep thats why when she gets up she's grumpy. there are thousands of reasons why a kid cries constantly but the best advice i can give you now is to get her to doctor and see what is really wrong with her, kids dont really know how to tell you but the doctor will be a great help for you..
and hey dont think youre a bad parent thats bull. keeping up with a baby is hard work..anyone who thinks otherwise is insensitive..
take care..

Its hard. Any distractions may help. Taking her for a walk in the pram to the park? My 19 month old loves to draw. It is hell to take the pens off her but while she has them it's quiet. And yes she uses pens because she cries if I give her crayons hes sister 4 uses pens. She may be having some pain in her bowels trying a wind formula or some panadol?

First, I've been there. I know that doesn't help but try to keep in mind that it will pass. My son never slept a night thru, screamed hours at a time till he was 1.
Have you been to the Dr. to check for ear infection? teething etc? Maybe something is hurting that she can't tell you?
The Dr. would be my first suggestion, for her and you.
You certainly aren't a failure as a mother. You just need some help.

Listen, distract her from whatever's on her mind by bringing her to do fun things, by pointing out the fun new things around her - 'Hey, look at this! Isn't this cool?!' It works with my nieces and nephews.

just let her get used to the new surroundings i am a young mom i am 21 with a 17 month old and i deal withthe same issues plus maybe her dad being gone affected her, kids know when someone is missing good luck and take a break even if it means locking urself in the bathroom

If You Didn't Have Sex, You Wouldn't Have A Kid & It Sounds Like She's A Whiney Brat.
