There are many people that are concerned about their names. Either their names don’t match their personality or they have odd names that don’t suit them, so they get laughed at. Some people are lucky to have names with meaning. For me, name is not an important thing to worry about in my life. Some people are too intrigued by these names. I think of my name as if it’s similar to water. It has neither taste nor color but you need it every day. I wonder sometimes why some people seem to be so fascinated by the tiniest things. I guess I am fortunate enough to have a name that has a meaning and it somewhat goes well with my personality. The name that my parents gave me fits my personality so well that I couldn’t imagine myself named differently.
In English my name means “The Moon”. There are three reasons why my name represents my character. First, I love going out at night; I feel alive at night and energetic unlike morning where I feel dead and exhausted. Night and moon do have something in common; they both appear at the same time of the day. In addition, I like staying up late doing stuff rather than going to sleep and waste the time of the night. Second, I am pretty quiet as a person like the moon; it shines at night when people are sleeping. I don’t talk much to the person I don’t really know, but I talk more when I know the person. Furthermore, I don’t get to be talkative until I get to know them. Finally, I like being alone or with just one or two of my friends when I am feeling down. I don’t really like crowd much unless it’s a party or a festival where crowd has to be involved. As with the moon, sometimes there are many stars around it, and other times there aren’t. As a result, my name does reflect who I am because my personality follows the meaning of it.
A different name wouldn’t change my personality or the way I interact with people. For example, my parents gave me my name before I was even born. I had a name hung on me at birth before any personality traits emerge. Also, name should be just name, and it shouldn’t interfere with anything else in your life. Name is probably the first thing that people judge us by upon hearing it the first time. As a result, people that are affected by such judgments are suffered by it. Those sufferings can be from being laughed at to an opportunity of a life time such as a job interview. Judging by your name, your boss might think twice before she/he hires you. This does not seem fair that we are judged by just our names and not our intelligence and creativity. “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet” is a quote by William Shakespeare from his play Romeo and Juliet. It is meant to say that the names of things do not matter, only what things are.
