They aren't a result of the financial crisis, they were just exposed by it. America really needs to sit down and decide whether they want a system that supports marginalised community members, and pay the appropriate taxes, or whether they want to keep everything they earn. They need to decide whether outspending the next 12 military powers is necessary, or whether they are comfortable no longer being the world police. and on and on ad infinitum. But that won't happen.
