The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus

"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you".

"Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you."

[Leviticus 11:7-8]

Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy

"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass."

[Deuteronomy 14:8]

Jesus was sent to earth to update Old Testament teachings which resulted in the abolishing of the dietary laws quoted above.Tragically, some Christians ignore Jesus' new teachings which among other problems, continues their support for the abomination of war.

Matthew 5:44

44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.:applause:

Pork was proscribed in the Bible because it was observed that many people got ill when eating pork. They knew nothing of trichinosis, but they did know people got sick from eating pork. We learned later about trichinosis and how to avoid it by properly cooking the meat. Any superstitious connotations to the proscription are merely quaint.

Geez, I'm an atheist and even I know this. One reason is because of Peter's vision in Acts 10:9-16 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=acts%2010:9-16&version=NIV

Seriously, open more then just the Old Testament.

Once again, the dietary laws set forth in the Old Testament were for the Jewish people.

Acts 10:9-16

Peter’s Vision
9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
