Although I love all 911 porsche models including the 996, I have to say that the 996 is probably the most unappealing in my opinion. Mostly because of the shape of the front head lights. I also noticed the 993 models are still worth more than the 996 models, is there a reason for this? I am guessing since the 993 were the last of the air-cooled Porsches, they must hold a value, not to mention they are absolutely beautiful. The other thing I thought of was that they might be considered (classic) so the value goes up as a car gets older, but then again it's only been a little more than a decade for the 993 to end production. So what really is the reason for the 993 models and sometimes even the 964 models being more expensive than the 996?

Simply put, and as u have alluded to this 'fact' in your question:

1. 993 being the last of the oil (or so-called air) cooled Porsche.

2. The sheer aesthetics, beauty, lines of the 993, compared to 996 and later models.

3. 993 distinctive engine sound, performance (authentic Porsche), makes it superior to 996 model.

4. The fact that the 993, is also the last of the true 'hand-made' Porsche generations.

5. Many Porsche mechanics admit that working on a 993 is easier than on a 996!

6. 993, is the last genuine 911 ever produced by Porsche!! From 1998 on, all 911 models (996, 997, 991) took on a larger and longer size body shells. This is a definite departure from the original true sports car idea developed by Porsche since its formation from the womb of the VW car, back in 1939!!

7. Last, not least: the 993 interior is classic (old) Porsche interior style, compared to new 996, where many Lexus-like gadgets, features, to the interior design and production of car were introduced.

Cheers!
