I understand that using vented/ported enclosures will yeild more SPL than a conventional sealed enclosure. But a friend of mine, said that when using a ported enclosure it isn't necessary to match/over-power the sub.
However, I always thought that when using a ported box, generally it was common & necessary to overpower the subs(in order to achieve the desired performance).
SO is there any truth to that or can I use less power with a ported box and still get great results???

you don't need to over power to get great results... just a ported box needs bigger volume then sealed to get better results but remember sealed is tighter bass and ported is louder bass
