Ok, so here is the deal, my friends have a pit bull , and they were given another pit bull from a friend. The two dogs mated and since then the previous owner has taken the female pit bull away because of some incidents that have happened between my friend and the previous owner. My friends just want to make sure the puppies go to a good home, the previous owner on the other hand is just in it for the money. My friends have set up a room that is dedicated to the femail pit and her puppies so that she would be comfortable when giving birth and nursing her pups. On the other hand the previous owner lives in a one bedroom apartment with three kids!!!!! Ughh this frustrates me because I just want the female to be comfortable and the pups to have what they need. The previous owner says that she gets 75% of the pups because she has the female dog, is that false info? Didnt the male have just as much to do with the pregnancy ? Shouldn't it be split 50/50? Ughh is there anything they can do ?

The owner of the female gets to make all the decisions unless there was a breeding contract showing that the stud owners get a different choice. I don't know of any thing to be done, sorry.

All of this should have been planned before the dogs mated. Since nothing was she gets the puppies.

If the female was given to your friend. Your friend has ever right to get the dog back. Your friend shouldn't have allowed them to mate in the first place. For all you know this could have been what the other people thought the arrangement was. It is not uncommon for breeders to leave their females at someones home until mating takes place.

There are so many unwanted pit pull types now that your friend should've thought about it. She probably should get her dog fixed so she doesn't run into this situation before, and so she isn't contributing to the dog over population.

The owner of the female get's all the puppies unless there was another agreement. Usually stud fee is one puppy.

This is exactly why both dogs should been altered. Responsible breeders have contracts, not mistakes.

although she is entitled to the pups, i'm willing to bet that if you involve animal control or the humane society, she won't have them for long.

It should be split 50/50! And the mother needs to be in as much comfort as is possible during labor. The conditions that you have set up seem to be the best choice. But just because she has the female doesn't mean she gets 75% of the pups. Without the male she wouldn't have any.

With no stud contract the owner of the b*tch gets ALL the pups and can whelp and raise them where-ever and however she pleases.

This is why only responsible people should breed dogs.

You may not like the answer, but the owner of the female owns all the puppies. Only when there is an agreement prior to breeding does the stud dog owner ever get a pup or cash. The male owner has no say in what the females owner does with any of the puppies.
It was irresponsible for 'your friend' with the male to breed the female when he didn't even legally own her. Just because you have a male and a female doesn't mean you should let them have puppies. There are already too many dogs in the local pounds because of that very situation.
I have to agree, that is why only responsible breeders should breed dogs.
