Even though the game industry is worth millions of dollars, it doesn't mean that the ESA has a lot of it to play with on the Hill. To add insult to injury, when compared to other entertainment industries like Hollywood, games don't exactly have the glamour it takes to woo the government's good graces. According to Gallagher:
Washington is very enamored with glitz and the appeal of stars. Whenever Bono shows up he creates this bow wave as he comes through, and it's true that stars do help drive messages. And it is true that Master Chief and Mario are not yet household words on the Hill, but wait for the years ahead.
With the average age of players rising (it's at about 33 years of age right now), there's hope that in the future we will have a gaming President. It would be nice to have one that only plays war on the consoles, not with actual living, breathing people. A Player of Video Games and Politics [NYT]
