I always hear people say he is a genius. Can someone please explain to what makes him a genius. I've listened to his material and it is interesting. His work is versatile, but so are a lot of artists. What makes him so special? I want to focus on his music. Not that he is perceived as enigmatic and strange. Just his music. I don't know very much about music on a techincal level so I don't know what to listen for in his music. Someone please explain to me in detail why his work is that of a genius.

He taught himself to play the piano by ear at age 5.

He can play damn near any instrument you put in front of him.

At age 18 he produced, composed, arranged & wrote all the music on his first album & for the most part continues to do so to this day.

Throughout the years he's written & produced for many groups/artists under his wing like: The Time, Jill Jones, Apollonia, Vanity, Sheila E. Taja Sevelle, Jesse Johnson - just to name a few.

He's not only good at his trademark funk/soul sound - but also very versitile in Jazz, Classical, Rock & Pop.

These are just a few things off the top of my head I can name from being a 25 year fan of his.
