Okay, here's the deal. My DVD player opens and closes when I press the button so that means it's connected and has power. Device manager recognises it but it has a yellow marking next to it. I chose the "update driver" option in Device Manager and it said I already had the most current driver. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and the name of the CD/DVD player is hp DVD-RAM GH40L SCSI CdRom Device. It really sucks not being able to play any movies or games so I would really appreciate assistance with the matter.
