I have an 8 year old mal Ball Python. He has always been a very healthy happy snake and and excellent eater. How ever Nov 08 He got out of his cage ( which has happened in the past) but normally for no more then a few hours or day or 2. this time he was out nearly a month and we found him Christmas eve setting up for christmas morning. We put him up and he seemed just fine eyes nostrils and mouth clear breathing fine scales nice and in place. We went out a couple days later bought him a med live rat which is his normal diet nad a new cage. We put him in his feeding tank with the rat and set up his new tank. He wouldnt even look at it. He has always been a rather aggressive eater and food doesnt last more then 30 seconds in with him. At first we didnt think much of it as its winter and he was loose ( we live on a farm so the possibility of him magically find a mouse to much while loose wouldnt suprise us too much) We finally put him into his new home and let him settle in he is active and drinking normally but we waited 2 weeks ( we normally feed him every 2 weeks) and tried again same result. Since we have tried small rats pinkies mice frozen food and whacking the rat before giving it to him ( thankfully we do have another snake so none of the food goes to waste) And as we speak he is literally curled up with a hopper baby rat and its sleeping snuggled against him. It has been over a month and he has yet to eat anything. We contacted the people we got him from and they informed us he has gotten out before and was out once for 4 months but it never interupted his eating. Over all he seems healthy and completely normal drinks moves goes to the bathroom.. But he just wont eat. just looking for some advice or tips before taking him to the vet.
